French club Strasbourg takes a new step in promoting water polo. It has started a project that could revolutionize how water polo is broadcasted.
Aerial shots will be introduced in the live broadcasts of Strasbourg’s home matches. One of the cameras will be a drone camera. It will be available for the director of the transmission of the water polo matches in Strasbourg soon.
Filming with the drone camera was tested during the match against Reims two weeks ago. The camera was behind the goal. As the club emphasizes, it recorded images that have never been seen before in the world of water polo. This weekend, Strasbourg released a one-minute video recorded by the drone camera on its social networks.
At first sight, it’s a refreshing and promising experience.
The aerial shots have been very rarely seen in the live broadcast of water polo games. Some details of the water polo sport are difficult to be seen any other way but from a bird’s eye view.
Strasbourg is a pioneer. If the French club’s project turns out to be good (the short video indicates that the idea is excellent), it would be great for TV productions worldwide, wherever possible, to enrich their transmissions with aerial shots.
This could enable a viewer to observe moves often challenging to catch on by the cameras located in the stands or near the field. This could also attract a larger audience to water polo and make it more enjoyable to watch.
