The Italian women’s national team roster for the World Cup has been revealed.
Sixteen players have been called up by Carlo Silipo to the Setterosa for the upcoming internationals in Rotterdam (April 11-13) and Athens (April 19-21).
With thirteen European bronze medalists from Split back on the team, they are nearly at full strength. Two key players, however Roberta Bianconi and Sofia Giustini, are both nursing injuries.
Three players on Silipo’s roster will make their senior national team debuts over the next few weeks. Veronica Gant of Ekipe Orizzonte is selected, while Giusy Citino, a forward for Plebiscito Padova, is the club’s lone representative. Pallanuoto Trieste’s Emma De March will also make her debut at the age of 17.
There will likely be some disruption to the Italian preparations for the world cup for the players from Ekipe, Rapallo and Trieste, with the Italian championship play-off’s taking place this weekend (8th April). At present, it is unclear who will be playing for their club, or staying to train with the national team.
