OSC defeated Vasas in the last game and the big derby of the penultimate, 25th round of the regular season in Hungary.
OSC built a 2-goal by the middle break and maintained the difference until the end – 10:8.
This result makes the finish of the Championships and the race for the spots in the semifinals more interesting. Ferencvaros and OSC qualified for the semis earlier, but 3rd-placed Vasas still hasn’t secured itself the continuation of the battle for the title.
Vasas has won 57, and 4th-placed Szolnok 55 points. Honved has 54 points in 4th place. Both Szolnok and Honved can overtake Vasas.
In the last round, Vasas will host Szolnok. The finalist of the LEN Euro Cup must win at least a point to keep third place. Honved will have quite an easier game against Szeged. If Vasas losses to Szolnok and Honved beats Szeged, Szolnok will climb to 3rd, and Honved to 4th place. Honved has a better goal difference in the matches against Vasas this season (an 11:8 win and an 8:9 loss). So, if these teams are tied in points, Honved will go ahead of Vasas.

After a balanced first quarter, Kristof Varnai gave OSC the first lead in the match by converting a man-up. Nagaev leveled at 3:3 in the next possession.
In the following minutes, OSC’s defense, with an excellent goalkeeper Marton Levai (who posted 14 saves today), dominated. The hosts kept Vasas scoreless for nine minutes. OSC didn’t earn a significant advantage in that interval – it went to 5:3. However, Vasas couldn’t catch up with the hosts after its goalless phase ended.

The visitors cut the deficit to one goal several times (4:5, 6:7, 7:8), but didn’t equalize. In the fourth period, there were no goals until the middle of the period, when Krisztian Manhercz scored from a 6 on 5 and doubled OSC’s advantage (9:7). Three minutes before the end, Ferenc Salamon scored an action goal for 10:7 and OSC secured three points.
