Today’s game wasn’t similar to the first one when Olympiacos recorded a one-goal win (10:9). Three days ago, Olympiacos had a five-goal lead, and Vouliagmeni cut the deficit at the finish.
Olympiacos couldn’t build a big lead in the second match, played in Vouliagmeni’s outdoor pool in Laimos. The teams were in a neck-and-neck race in the first three periods. Olympiacos secured the victory midway through the fourth quarter.
Vouliagmeni’s Kalogerpoloulos scored an opening goal from a penalty in the second minute. Until the middle of the second quarter, the teams traded goals. Vouliagmeni took a one goal-lead four times. Farmer converted a man-up in the 13th minute for 4:3. It turned out that it was the hosts’ last lead in the game. By the middle break, Olympiacos scored three unanswered goals. Just three seconds before the end of the first half, Fountoulis made it 4:6 from a counter-attack.
Olympiacos kept a 2-goal lead for a long, but at the finish of the third period, Vouliagmeni equalized with two goals within 01:05 minutes. Alafragkis leveled the score at 6:6 in the 23rd minute. However, Olympiacos earned a penalty shot in its next possession. Fountoulis gave the visitors a 7:6 lead from the penalty. Vouliagmeni’s Kalogeropoulos closed the third quarter with an equalizer for 7:7 with 14 seconds to go and the decision was left for the final eight minutes.
Midway through the fourth period, Olympiacos produced a new 3:0 run, which was vital for their win. The visitors scored these three goals in just 76 seconds. Fountoulis opened the new series, Genidounias added two goals (one from an action, the other from a penalty), and three goals separated the rivals for the first time. Olympiacos led 10:7 in the 28th minute. In the remaining time, Vouliagmeni cut the deficit to two goals, but nothing more than that.
Olympiacos will be the host of the next game on May 16.
