The Italian national team has gathered in the Ostia swimming center and started preparing for the World Cup Super Final in Los Angeles (June 30 – July 2) and the World Championships in Fukuoka (July 14 – 30).
Alessandro Campagna called up 26 players. Among them is one returnee – Alessandro Velotto, who won the gold medal at the 2019 World Championships and Olympic bronze in 2016. He wasn’t called up to the national team last summer. In the season 2021/22, he suffered a serious injury (a broken hand). He hasn’t participated in major competitions for the national teams since the Tokyo Olympics.
At the finish of this season, he played very well for Pro Recco and after the Champions League F8, Alessandro Campagna integrated Vellotto among the candidates for the national team.
Yesterday, Pro Recco officially said goodbye to Velotto, who spent five years in this club (2018-2023), winning 12 trophies, including three Champions League. Velotto will continue his career at Marseille.
Velotto will start with the preparations on June 9, together with the other players who participated in the Final Eight in Belgrade.
