Serbian center-forward Petar Velkic, who left Ortigia recently, joined Romanian Oradea, the runner-up in the 2023 national league.
Velkic (25) started his career at Partizan and, in 2017, moved to Sabac. After four seasons at Sabac, he returned to Partizan in 2021. In the previous season, he played for Ortigia.
Velkic won the gold medal at the 2015 European U17 Championships, the tournament held as part of the 1st European Games in Baku. He clinched silver at the World U20 Championships in Belgrade in 2017.
Last year, Velkic played for the senior national team at the World League Super Final and at the European Championships.
Velkic is Oradea’s third newcomer this summer, after Montenegrin Filip Gardasevic, who arrived from Primorac, and returnee David Belenyesi, a member of the Romanian U20 national team that currently plays at the World Junior Championships in Otopeni. Belenyesi started playing water polo in Oradea before he left for Hungary, where he was a member of Szolnok and UVSE.
The club said goodbye to goalkeeper of the Romanian national team Marius Tic, Serbian player Mateja Asanovic, and Silvian Colodrovschi, a center-forward who will be replaced by Velkic.
