Several Australian players are making the decision to leave their European clubs and return home as they prepare for the upcoming season leading to the Olympic Games. Many members of the Aussie Stingers, have chosen Queensland as their destination, with a notable presence in the recently established club, the Brisbane Vikings.
The Vikings have secured commitments from five key Australian women's team members, namely goalkeeper Gabi Palm, left-handed scorer Abby Andrews, center player Tenealle Fasala, as well as two players from American universities, Sofie Pontre and Jamie Oberman.
Gabi Palm, who has demonstrated significant progress in recent seasons, is returning to Australia after a stint with Mediterrani in the previous season. Abby Andrews, recognized as one of the top left-handed players in women's water polo, is also making her way back home following a successful season as the leading goal-scorer in the Italian League while playing for SIS Roma.
Jamie Oberman, representing Long Beach, and Sofie Pontre, from Michigan, have both showcased their skills during their time at U.S. universities. While Oberman, daughter of Stinger head coach Paul, was not part of the team that secured a 4th place finish in Fukuoka, Pontre delivered an impressive performance in Japan during her most significant tournament to date.
Tenealle Fasala is rejoining her former coach Fabio Pavanello at the Vikings, a coach she had previously played under during her time with the UQ Barracudas. Additionally, Italian U20 player Rebecca Bianchi is set to become a part of the Vikings as well.
