Balazs Nyeki has said that his team are already eyeing up the next success after the new Ferencvaros’ maiden triumph of winning the Hungarian Cup – Fradi’s sixth consecutive Cup title.
“You have to get down to earth,” he remarked to the Hungarian federation, “sport is about working modestly and humbly after success to get the next one.”
With the Hungarian national league (OB I) on the horizon and the Champions League kicking off at the end of September, Nyéki shared the team’s plans for the coming weeks. “We have a very long season ahead of us, so maybe this is the best distribution for rest,” he explained, referring to the decision to split the team into two groups for training and recovery. “Our next goal is to win the Hungarian championship, and then to reach the very end in the Champions League as well.”
When asked if the Hungarian Cup victory served as a message to their competitors, Nyéki offered a broader perspective, saying, “Our message is rather that we will be extremely motivated throughout the season…there will not be a moment when it will diminish.”

Balazs Nyeki revealed that prior to the Final, he felt practically no pressure to achieve imediate success in his new role as Ferencvaros Head Coach. “Fradi did not lose the final with Zsolt, so it was in my mind to some extent and caused minimal pressure” Nyeki explained. “I was a bit more tense, but as soon as the match started, it stopped” he added.
But its not only Fradi’s new coach who carries a lot of expectation on his shoulders. Much will be expected of huge summer signings of Dusan Mandic and Eduardo Di Somma throughout the course of the season. With regards to the expectations of the new players, Nyéki noted, “The Legionnaires know that they have come to a team that has won everything so far, so they have to prove themselves. They are professionals and experienced enough to handle this”.
Throughout the tournament, which takes place earlier this season due to the international calendar over the next twelve months, FTC-Telekom demostrated an impressive defensive fortitude. Nyéki praised his team’s mentality and attitude, saying, “What I was really happy with was the number and quality of the blocks, which was fantastic…whoever can block around 10 or more will most likely win the match.”
As Balázs Nyéki embarks on his journey as Ferencvaros’ head coach, his focus on maintaining motivation and achieving continued success suggests a bright future for the club. While he may not admit it publicly, but he will be thrilled, and perhaps relieved to have won silverware so early in his tenure. With his impressive hunger to conquer more titles, Fradi fans have every reason to be excited about the upcoming campaign.
