The last competition day of the female tournament at the Europeans is about to start. Find out what our blogger Marton Benczur expects.
FranceΒ – Slovakia
Winning the seventh-place should not be an issue for the French team. If France wins again, it will finish in seventh place directly behind the big teams. Although they will be seventh again, it is impossible not to notice the progress the French team has gone through. They have a good future if they continue to develop and find a real goal-scorer.
Greece – Italy
Both teams were hoping for a better position, but at the moment, this game is a reality for them. Currently, the first four teams are stronger than them. They have to work to prepare for the Olympics qualifying tournament, and they will. The first step in these preparations could be the fifth-place match, so expect an exciting fierce battle!
Hungary – Netherlands
It will be an encounter between two very disappointed teams, but a real battle for reputation is expected. Of course, the home side would like to finish with on the podium, in front of their audience. The Dutch team also wants to return home with a medal. I am curious to see which team can overcome the fact that they were so close to qualifying for the Olympic Games. The Hungarian team will be handicapped severely because of the absence of injured Greta Gurisatti. She is an excellent player, and Hungary will have fewer players that will make the rotation more onerous. Of course, I wish Greta to recover quickly!
Spain – Russia
The match between the teams that have no pressure of winning the Olympic berth for the title will bring real joy. That is why it will be a very good match, a worthy closing of this great European Championship. The Spaniards can continue to rely on their composure and tremendous experience, while the Russians can believe in their rolling attacks and their outstanding goalkeeper Anna Karnaukh. It will be a real festival of water polo stars and fantastic players – a match to see!
