The Hungarian water polo federation has appointed Attila Mihok and Sandor Cseh as joint-coaches of the Hungarian women’s water polo team.
The duo replaces the departing Attila Biro, who was relieved of his post two weeks ago after eight years, as the team failed to finish inside the top four at the World Championships in Fukuoka.
In this unorthodox arrangement, Mihok will lead the team as the official head coach for fixtures; however, the Hungarian federation is keen to emphasize that both coaches are equal partners with regard to all other responsibilities.
Keszthelyi: Players need to take responsibility for Biro’s departure
Attila Mihok is a familiar name in women’s water polo, serving as the head coach of Dunaujvaros. With Mihok as coach, Dunaujvaros won the Women’s LEN Trophy in 2018, while they have placed second in the Hungarian OB I in six of the last seven seasons.
On the other hand, Sandor Cseh has enjoyed success in the men’s game, notably with Szolnok, winning the club’s first Champions League title in 2017. Cseh led Szolnok to a hat-trick of Hungarian Championships (2015, 2016, 2017) and Hungarian Cups (2015, 2017, 2018).
The Hungarian Federation has yet to release more information regarding the length of the new duo’s contract. Hungary’s women’s team has not yet secured their berth for the Paris Olympic Games.
