Barceloneta holds off Sabadell and takes revenge

There have been many derbies in national leagues this weekend. As we reported, Important games were played in Hungary and France. Spain isn’t an exception.

Barceloneta and Sabadell faced off in the 5th round of the Spanish championship. Barceloneta recorded a 15:9 victory and took revenge for a defeat in the Spanish Super Cup semifinals.

2020/21 Spanish League, Day 5

Group A

Catalunya – Real Canoe 9:9 (2:3, 2:2, 3:0, 2:4)

Catalunya: Prat 3, Santiveri 3, Gasulla 1, Ferrer 1, Ponferrada 1.
Real Canoe: Alcon 3, M.Gonzalez 1, De Grado 1,Jimenez 1, Camarena 1, Lopez 1.

Sant Feliu – Mediterrani 13:21 (3:6, 2:3, 3:7, 5:5)

Sant Feliu: Pugibet 5, M. Lucena 2, A. Lucena 2, Rodrigo 1, Llorens 1, Lopez 1, V. Fernandez 1.

Terrassa – Barcelona postponed

Only two games were played in Group A. The derby Terrassa – Barcelona has been postponed due to a positive coronavirus test at Barcelona.

Mediterrrani easily beat bottom-placed Sant Feliu.

Catalunya and Real Canoe shared the points in a very exciting game. Catalunya had a solid 7:5 advantage before the last quarter. Real leveled the score 106 seconds before the end (8:8), but in the next possession, Pol Prat put Catalunya in front – 9:8. Ivan Alcon scored the ninth goal for Real 23 seconds before the end, and the match ended in a 9:9 draw.

Sabadell – Barceloneta 9:15 (2:3, 2:4, 3:5, 2:3)

Tenerife – Mataro 10:11 (2:4, 0:1, 4:5, 4:1)

Echeyde Tenerife: Espanol 5, Andjelic 2, Magrina 1, Gurierrez 1, Fernandez 1.

Sant Andreu – Navarra 15:7 (2:0, 4:2, 6:2, 3:3)

Navarra: Rodriguez 4, Carales 2, Jauregui 1.

The derby in the swimming pool “Can Llong” started with an early goal by Bernat Sanahuja. He converted a penalty to give Sabadell a 1:0 lead. But, Barceloneta replied quickly, with two goals (Granados and Perrone). A minute before the first break the hosts equalized (2:2). But, Barceloneta’s Michael Bodegas responded immediately with a goal for 2:3. From that point on, Barceloneta was always ahead. Led by Alvaro Granados, who was outstanding, the visitors earned a 5-goal advantage (9:4) in the early stage of the third quarter. Deep into this period, the reigning champion extended the margin to six (11:5) and Sabadell couldn’t come back. Barcelona remains alone on the top of the table of Group B.

Mataro achieved the second win in the season by defeating Tenerife 11:10. Mataro led 10:6 before the final period. Tenerife came close twice during the fourth quarter (9:10 and 10:11) but didn’t equalize.

Sant Andreu beat Navarra convincingly, with six goals from Nikolas Paul Garcia.
