The finalists of the 2022 Spanish League faced off today in the 3rd round of the regular season. Title-holder Barceloneta left no room for excitement in the derby and beat Barcelona 14:9.
Caballa recorded its first win in the Spanish First League after a thrilling clash with Rubi. An encounter between Sant Andreu and Mataro was very exciting,too.

Last weekend, Barcelona participated in a demanding tournament of the Euro Cup Round 2 in Duisburg. It advanced to the eighth-finals but didn’t have enough energy for the Spanish derby. Barceloneta proved it was in good shape and built a 3:0 lead after less than five minutes of the match. Barcelona cut the deficit to one with two quick goals (2:3). Still, the visitors regained a 3-goal advantage before the second period (6:3), and went to +4 in the 10th minute (7:3). Barcelona halved the difference (6:8). However, the reigning champion responded with two goals at the finish of the first half. Barceloneta was 10:6 up at halftime. The second half was more-less balanced, but the visitors controlled the match and the result.
Sabadell, the other Spanish club in the Champions League, recorded a convincing win, as well as Barceloneta. Still, the LEN Euro Cup winner needed more time to secure a significant advantage. Catalunya played well in the first half and trailed just by a goal in the 16th minute (5:6). But Sabadell netted two goals in the last 43 seconds of the second period and five by the middle of the fourth for a huge 13:5 advantage. Bernat Sanahuja, with six, and Francisco Valera, with four goals, were the players who made the difference.
Newcomer Caballa – Ciudad de Ceuta collected its first points in the Division de Honor, beating Ruvi. It was an exciting game with several twists and turns. Finn Pardon scored a winner, converting a man-up, with just 31 seconds left on the clock for Caballa’s 9:8 victory.
One goal was decisive in the match Sant Andreu – Mataro, too. Both teams had ups and downs in this encounter. Sant Andreu led 4:2 at the first break, but Mataro scored four unanswered goals in the second quarter and turned around a 2-goal deficit to a 6:4 lead. The hosts regrouped themselves during a 3-minute break and started coming back. In the middle of the final period, Sant Andreu went ahead again – 9:8. But Mataro scored the last two goals in the game. Cuacos made it 10:9 in the 31st minute and set the final score.
