Barceloneta won the 22nd edition of the Spanish Menβs Super Cup.
Two Champions League clubs played in the match for the Super Cup. Sabadell, the LEN Euro Cup winner, hosted Barceloneta, which recorded an 8:7 victory after a very exciting battle.
In the shadow of the Super Cup, several league matches were on the program of water polo events in Spain today.
Sabadell opened the match very well and led for most of the time. But, Barceloneta clinched the trophy thanks to an excellent finish.

Sabadell had a 1:0, 2:1, 3:1 lead at the beginning. In the 13th minute, Averka doubled Sabadellβs advantage (4:2), converting a man-up. However, Barceloneta equalized before the big break, with two goals in the last 91 seconds (Pavillard from a penalty and Biel action goal).
But, Sabadell retook control in the second half and re-earned a 2-goal advantage. In the 22nd minute, Sanahuja found the net for 6:4. Barcelonetaβs Bustos, closed the third period with an action goal scored 23 seconds from the buzzer, and his teammate Dusan Matkovic opened the final quarter to level at 6:6. In the middle of the quarter, Cabanas put Sabadell in front once again (7:6). But, the finish of the match belonged to the reigning Spanish champion. Immediately after Cabanasβ goal, De Toro leveled at 7:7. A minute and 31 seconds before the final buzzer, Bustos converted a man-up and Barceloneta took the lead for the first time (8:7). The champions kept the minimal advantage and lifted their 17th Super Cup of Spain.
Super Cup was established in 2001. Barceloneta has won 17, Sabadell four (the last in 2020) and Sant Andreu one trophy (2014).
Barcelonetaβs Alejando Bustos was voted the MVP of the Super Cup.

Mataro was two goals down (5:7) at the beginning of the third quarter of the match against Terrassa. Still, the hosts were able to come back. Before the final period, they took a 9:8 lead. Early in the fourth, Terrassa leveled at 9:9, but that was the visitorsβ last goal in the game, and Mataro scored three in the remaining time.
Tenerife convincingly beat newcomer Caballa.
Mediterrani played excellently in the first half of the match against Rubi, so the hosts couldn’t come back.
