Tuesday: Ferencvaros – OSC 9:8
Five days ago, Honved upset Vasas (11:8), but the team coached by Marton Vamos didn’t keep the momentum gained in that big win. Honved opened the match against BVSC very badly. That determined the rest of the game.
BVSC flew in the first quarter. After five minutes of play, the hosts led 3:0. In the 9th minute, Matyas Meszaros netted his third consecutive goal to make it 4:0. Honved started recovering from an opening shock quickly. Eighteen seconds before the middle break, Nyiri scored for 3:6. The third quarter belonged to Honved, which tightened its defense, but it couldn’t equalize. Still, before the final quarter, the visitors trailed by a goal (5:6) and everything was still open.
But, BVSC retook control in the fourth quarter. The hosts widened the gap to two goals two times (7:5, 8:6). Honved cut the deficit both times. But BVSC netted two back-to-back goals (Gyarfas and Gal) and went to 10:7 in the 30th minute. Honved replied immediately for 8:10, but that was the last goal in the match and BVSC bagged all three points.
Szolnok started slowly in the attack, but the defense of the former European champion was superb in the game against Szentes. At halftime, Szolnok led 5:1. Early in the third quarter, Vismeg stretched the margin to five (6:1). Before the end of the quarter, Szolnok gained a 6-goal lead (9:3). In the last quarter, each team scored three goals.
Miskolc saved a point in the match against Szeged, thanks to an excellent finish. There were a few twists and turns in the match. Szeged started better. Still, in the 20th minute, Miskolc had a 6:5 advantage. Then Szeged scored four straight goals and earned a 9:6 lead (the 31st minute). But that wasn’t the end of the drama. Miskolc scored three goals in the last 72 seconds. Just 10 seconds before the buzzer, the hosts earned a penalty shot. Oltean converted it to the final score – 9:9.
UVSE recorded its first win in the season, beating KSI. Before the 9th round, both teams had had only one point each. UVSE took a flying start and earned a 4:0 lead midway through the second quarter. Shortly after, the visitors went to 6:1. KSI didn’t come back. UVSE regained a five-goal lead several times (9:4, 10:5, 11:6). KSI scored the last three goals in the match, which changed nothing.
Vasas’ defense didn’t shine, but the favorite cruised to a 21:10 victory over PVSK.
Eger was better than Kaposvar (15:11). Eger was always in front. In the middle of the second period, the hosts earned a 3-goal lead (5:2). From that point on, the distance was never smaller than two goals. Eger even had a 6-goals advantage (15:9), but the visitors narrowed the gap at the finish.
