After yesterday’s action-packed games in Group A, the matches of Group B of Day 2 of the 2020 Champions League didn’t provide a lot of thrills. Four favourites cruised to victories.
Ferencvaros, the reigning champion, convincingly beat Marseille. Mladost collected its first points this season with a big win over Dinamo Tbilisi. Pro Recco demolished Terrassa. OSC Budapest had minor headaches in the opening minutes of the clash with Hannover, but the Hungarians also recorded a big win.
Today, 101 goals were scored in total! Five more than in Group A yesterday.

Titleholder Ferencvaros was too strong for the LEN Euro Cup winner Marseille. The Hungarians, playing excellently in defence, rushed to a 7:1 lead after 14 minutes of play. The French couldn’t recover from that shock, so in the second half of the match, the hosts’ win wasn’t in danger. Ferencvaros even had an 8-goal lead (13:5 two and a half minutes from the end), but the visitors scored two goals in the finish to reduce the gap. Ferencvaros captain Denes Varga was the best scorer with 4 goals. Marseille will have a chance for revenge in two weeks. The two teams will meet again on 2 November in the match for the LEN Super Cup, which will be played in Marseille.
Just like on Day 1, two matches of Group B were played in Budapest today. Hannover, which was defeated by Ferencvaros on Day 1 (12:15), visited the capital of Budapest for the second time in ten days to face OSC Budapest this evening. The Germans kept up with the favourites for a quarter and a half. In the 13th minute, the score was 5:5. Then the home team took control and it built its first 3-goal advantage (8:5). At halftime, OSC was leading 9:6. Hannover reduced the gap to 2 (7:9) early in the third. From that point on, the Hungarians dominated. They netted five goals in a span of 03:07 minutes for a 14:7 advantage to secure the win.
Mladost became the first team which scored more than 20 goals in a match this season. The Regional League winner ran over Dinamo Tbilisi. The Croatian team stunned the debutants in the Champions League with an 8:2 lead. In the middle of the second period, the hosts had a 9:2 advantage and after that, the only question was the margin of their win. In the end, Mladost recorded a 21:11 victory. Romanian Cosmin Radu topped the scorers’ list, with 5 goals.
Pro Recco hosted newcomer Terrassa in Bergamo, as a part of the promotional tour of the Italian giant. The home team killed all excitements quickly. Early in the second period, Recco had a 6:1 lead. After Terrassa’s second goal (2:6), in the 13th minute, the Italians responded with a 4:0 series to go 10:2 up and there was no way back for the Spaniards. Led by Francesco di Fulvio (6 goals), Pro Recco increased the distance to 10 until the last buzzer (15:5).
