The VRL Premier League continues tomorrow with the Montenegrin derby, Buducnost – Primorac, in Podgorica, but the highlight of Round 2 will be an encounter between the Serbian and Montenegrin champions in Kragujevac, scheduled for Wednesday.
Buducnost and Primorac are seeking their first points after defeats to Radnicki and Sabac, respectively. Primorac, the Champions League club, is entering the match as the favorite, but Buducnost won’t surrender easily.
On Wednesday, Radnicki will welcome Jadran Herceg Novi in Kragujevac. Both teams started the season strongly. Radnicki demolished Buducnost 27:10, while Jadran defeated Partizan 21:10.
The derby in Kragujevac will be the final rehearsal for Radnicki and Jadran before the first round of the Champions League. The upcoming game is a good opportunity for both teams to estimate their strength, as Buducnost and today’s Partizan aren’t in the same weight category as the two national champions.
Radnicki, a team composed of many great aces, wants to enter the battle for trophies in all competitions. Jadran’s ambitions are also high, while the roster boasts of excellent players. So, an exciting duel is on the horizon.
It’s interesting to note that Radnicki is led by a new captain this season, Andrija Prlainovic. The double Olympic champion with Serbia left a mark at Jadran at the beginning of his outstanding career, when one of his teammates was Vladimir Gojkovic, the current head coach of the Herceg Novi-based team.
Novi Beograd will visit the Banjica pool to play against a young team of Partizan on Wednesday.
The round will be closed with the match Crvena Zvezda – Sabac, scheduled for Friday. Crvena Zvezda participated in the Euro Cup Qualifications last weekend. Crvena Zvezda collected five points at the tournament in Montpellier, which wasn’t enough for advancing to the Group Stage, where Sabac qualified directly as the 3rd-placed team in the 2025 Serbian League. The Red-Whites are eager to bounce back both from the weekend in Montpellier, where they were close to reaching the goal, and from a 10:17 defeat to Novi Beograd in the first round of the VRL League. But, they won’t have an easy task against a very good team of Sabac.
