In the Dutch Eredivisie, leader AZC narrowly beat low ranked SVH. ZV De Zaan defeated UZSC and ZPC Amersfoort and Het Ravijn continue to win. UZSC is the new leader for the women because ZV De Zaan lost against Polar Bears.
Men
In the top match between ZV De Zaan and UZSC, the goals were scarce. No goals were scored at all in the second period. It wasn’t until the third period – when it was only 1-1 – that the game loosened up a bit. In the last period, Pascal Janssen and Angelo Corver opened a gap in favor of De Zaan (6-4). Four minutes before the end, Gies Wijnhoven did something back on behalf of UZSC, but the team from Utrecht didn’t get further than 6-5.
In Rotterdam, SVH was heading for a stunt against leader AZC for a long time. The home team had the initiative for most of the game. Petar Ivosevic’s team led well into the third period, but Nathan de Zwaan and Lars Reuten brought AZC next to SVH. Thirty seconds before the end, Rick Vermeulen netted the 10-10 from a men-up and the points seemed to be shared, but the strong playing Milos Filipovic (picture) scored the winning goal in the last Alphen attack: 10-11.
For runner-up Het Ravijn the evening was a lot easier. In Nijverdal, Zeno Reuten’s team defeated PSV with 18-8. ZPC Amersfoort also had little to fear from the opponent. In Borculo, the team from Amersfoort outclassed BZC. At the end it was no less than 7-21. In the first period, BZC was able to stay close to the visitors, but after that it was over. The Hungarian attacker Gergely Palotas in particular was on fire. He scored eight times.
Polar Bears and GZC Donk also recorded great results. In Ede it became 17-7 for Polar Bears against ZPB. GZC Donk defeated Waterpolo Den Haag with 2-13.
Women
For the women it is exciting at the top. Because ZV De Zaan lost against Polar Bears (just like last week), the club from Zaandam lost the lead to UZSC, which beat GZC Donk. UZSC, ZV De Zaan and Polar Bears now have the same number of loss points.
In Ede Polar Bears put the visitors 5-0 behind in the first quarter. In the second period ZV De Zaan finally woke up. Lieke Rogge, Maxine Schaap and Yara Galjé brought ZV De Zaan back into the race. In the third period, Wouter Veer’s team even tied the score after goals from Rogge and Takyiwa Sam, but then Polar Bears took back the initiative. Nina van de Geijn (2x), Feline Voordouw and Laura Schinkel let the home team run out to 10-6. ZV De Zaan could no longer bridge that gap. At the end it was 12-10.
In Gouda UZSC won 10-11 against GZC Donk. Only three times in the match the difference was more than one goal. In the first period, GZC Donk made it 3-1, but Hanna Hogervorst and Kila van der Veen closed that gap. In the third period UZSC ran out to 6-8, but Esther Scheij and Viviane Kretzmann Bahia nullified that. In the last period, thanks to goals from Marijn Borst and Hogervorst, UZSC again made a difference of two goals (9-11). That gap turned out to be decisive. Kayleigh Schonewille made the 10-11, but that was it.
