After much speculation, it has been confirmed that Alvaro Granados will return to Barceloneta for the 2024-25 season.
The 25-year-old Spaniard, who left Novi Beograd earlier this summer, initially signed with Pro Recco. However, due to escalating financial issues at the Italian club, which have led to the initiation of a liquidation process, many of the club's stars are departing. Granados has opted to return home to continue his career.
Before signing with Recco, Granados was approached by FTC, the current Champions League winners, but ultimately chose to join Pro Recco. When remaining at Recco was no longer viable, we reported that Ferencvaros could still be an option—a possibility he immediately dismissed.
Granados returns to a Barceloneta team with which he has won five leagues, five Copa del Reys, and three Spanish Super Cups. His return represents a significant boost in quality for the team, which has recently seen the departures of Marc Larumbe to Marseille and Miguel de Toro to Ferencvaros. Meanwhile, the team has welcomed new talents such as Vince Vigvari, Marc Valls, Biel Gomila, and Gergely Burian, following the exits of Niko Paul and Luke Pavillard.
