Denes Varga, the 2019 Total Player Award winner, concluded his career at Ferencvaros after winning the Champions League trophy in Malta in May. Although he hasnβt played an official game since the Paris Olympics, he has not announced his retirement yet.
Varga is joining the squad of the Los Angeles Athletic Club for the 2025 USA Water Polo National League, the club announced on its Instagram account.
Before moving to the USA, Varga, a water polo legend, played for Ujpest, Vasas, Primorje, Szolnok, and Ferencvaros,winning three Champions League titles (one with Szolnok and two with Ferencvaros). His most significant achievements with the national team include two Olympic medals (gold in 2008 and bronze in 2020) and two World Championship titles (in 2013 and 2023), among others.
Varga will join his new club in the middle of April, to help Los Angeles AC at the final tournament.
This season, USA Menβs League teams compete in two conferences, with seven teams in each. The league started in February, and currently, the Los Angeles Athletic Club is in 2nd place in the North Conference with four wins and two losses. The remaining games will be played over two weekends in March, while the final tournament (Championships) is scheduled for the last weekend in April.
