Filip Filipovic confirmed his retirement at the end of the previous season.
However, it has not been the end of his career. Since then, he has come out of retirement to play water polo twice. In the autumn, he competed in a one-week league in Kuwait.
Now, he is heading to the United States of America to join the Los Angeles Athletic Club (LAAC) for the final tournament of the USA National League.
Filipovic is LAAC's second big reinforcement this season. Several weeks ago, the club announced that Denes Varga would also be playing for LAAC. For the first time, the two water polo legends will be on the same team.
According to the clubs' announcement, "Denes Varga made the call and convinced Filip to join him at LAAC and help grow the American game."
The National League's three-day final tournament will take place in Walnut, a city in Los Angeles County, on the last weekend of April. Twelve teams will participate.
Filip Filipovic, who won four Olympic medals (two golds and two bronzes), two titles at the World Championships, and six golds at the European Championships, played for six clubs in Europe before confirming retirement: Partizan, Pro Recco, Radnicki, Szolnok, Olympiacos and Novi Beograd, winning titles with each of them.
He was a member of the club Al-Qadisiya in Kuwait late in 2024. This month, he will briefly experience American club water polo competitions..
