After three years at Novi Beograd, Dimitros Skoumpakis is set to return to Greece.
The 27-year-old defender will join Panathinaikos for the upcoming season, as announced by the club today.
The Athens-based club has a long history but has yet to win a national or international trophy, and has high ambitions. Last summer, Olympic champion Viktor Rasovic also joined Panathinaikos.
Skoumpakis was a member of the Greek national team that won a silver medal at the World Cup Final Eight in Podgorica last week. Playing for Greece, he also clinched the silver medals at the 2021 Olympic Games, the 2023 World Championships, the 2020 World League, and many other trophies.
He began his career at Glyfada. After leaving Glyfada, he has played for Olympiacos (2018-2021), Vouliagmeni (2021-2022), and Novi Beograd since 2022. This season, he has been one of the key players for the rejuvenated Serbian champions.
Skoumpakis and Panathinaikos have signed a two-year contract, with an option to extend for an additional year.
