Ortigia has found a replacement for defender Simone Rossi, who departed for Hungary, becoming the first foreigner to play for OSC Budapest after 2020.
Rossi’s replacement is Giorgio La Rosa (30), the club announced today.
He will wear Ortigia’s cap for the second time in his career. La Rosa played for the Syracuse-based club in the season 2019/20 when Ortigia qualified for the LEN Euro Cup final, but the season was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
After leaving Ortigia, he didn’t move from Sicily. In the past three seasons, he played for Catania. La Rosa is a defender but plays an important role in the attack. In the last season, he scored 42 in 23 games for Catania.
At the same time, Ortigia, which will play in the Champions League qualifications next season, announced that Spaniard Javier Gorria Pugga hadn’t renewed the contract and thanked him.
La Rosa is Ortigia’s fourth newcomer this summer, after three foreign players: Luca Cupido (Barcelona) Yusuke Inaba (Trieste), and Andria Bitadze (Panionios).
Before Gorria, several players left the club – Francesco Condemi (Pro Recco), Simone Rossi (OSC), Stefan Vidovic (Sabadell) and Petar Velkic (Oradea).
