Savona confirmed that it had signed a one-year contract with an experienced attacker Pietro Figlioli (39), who left Pro Recco.
He was born in Brazil, but his family moved to Australia when he was a kid. The first national team he played for was the „Aussie Sharks“. He represented Australia at the Olympic Games twice (2004 and 2008).
Figlioli moved to Europe in 2003, and since then, he has played for Barcelona, Chiavari, Pro Recco, Sori, Sport Management, Brescia, and Pro Recco. He was a Pro Recco member for 13 seasons (with three arrivals and departures).
Savona's new reinforcement won seven Champions Leagues with Pro Recco (playing at the final tournaments when his team triumphed five times – he missed the F4 in 2012 and this year’s F8), 11 titles of the Italian Champion, 10 Italian Cups, four LEN Super Cups... He lifted the LEN Euro Cup with Barcelona.
In 2009, he gained Italian citizenship and played for „Settebello“ at numerous major competitions. Representing Italy, Figlioli won silver at the London Olympics in 2012, bronze at the Rio Olympics in 2016, two gold medals at the World Championships (2009 and 2019), silver and bronze ar the Europeans, three silver medals with Italy in the World League. He has two World League bronze medals as a player of the Australian national team (2007 and 2008).
Figlioli is Savona's second confirmed newcomer for the new season after Balasz Erdelyi
Three players have left Pro Recco after the end of the season. In the past few days, the European champion said goodbye to Luka Loncar and Alesandro Velott. Loncar will move to Olympiacos, and Velotto to Marseille.
