A legend of Spanish women's water polo has announced her retirement.
Roser Tarragó, 31, a two-time Olympic silver medalist, has confirmed she has played her final competitive game.
One of Tarragó's most notable achievements was her pivotal role in Spain's gold medal win at the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona. The year prior, she made history by helping secure Spain's first-ever Olympic medal in women's water polo at the London 2012 Olympics, a feat she repeated with another silver at the Rio Olympics. The Spanish star was also twice crowned a European Champion, in Budapest in 2014 and 2020.
Following the Tokyo Olympics, Tarragó ended her international career.
Her club career was slightly less illustrious as her national team career.
During her two stints at Mataró, from 2006-2013 and 2015-2016, her most successful season was in 2016 when Mataró won the Spanish Cup and the LEN Trophy. Tarragó also enjoyed brilliant moments with the Cal Bears in Berkeley (2013-2015). After playing for the Drummoyne Devils just before the COVID-19 pandemic, Tarragó also played for Mediterrani and Tenerife Echeyde before finishing her playing career at Barceloneta.
