De Akker Bologna, which achieved its goal in the 2023 Serie A1 and kept a spot in the highest league, did a great job in the transfer market.
Stefano Luongo, the 5th-best scorer of the 2023 Champions League (37 goals), arrived at De Akker from Brescia.
Luongo (33) was a regular member of the Italian national team for years and won gold at the 2019 World Championships and bronze at the 2010 Europeans. He played for Brescia in the past few seasons. Before that, he was a Camogli, Pro Recco, Acquachiara, Sport Management member. He won the 2021 Champions League with Pro Recco.
The club said that Luongo’s arrival was a historic deal. It has been more than thirty years since a player of international caliber has worn the cap of De Akker. The club added that it hadn’t been easy to bring a player of this level to Bologna.
With Luongo on the team, De Akker's ambitions are getting higher.
Before Luongo’s arrival, two players left De Akker. Both went to Brescia – Edoardo Manzi and Stefano Guerrato.
