Taiyo Watanabe, a talented 23-year-old Japanese player, will continue his career in Spain.
He will move to Barcelona next season, the Catalan club confirmed. Watanabe arrived in Europe two years ago and has since played for the French club Pays d’Aix.
Watanabe became a regular member of the Japanese national team at the age of 21. The speed goalgetter has represented Japan in two World Championships (2023 and 2024), the Olympic Games (2024), and the World Cup (2025). He has won gold medals with Japan at the Asian Games and the Asian Championships.
