One of the most successful water polo coaches in history, Β Dejan Savic returns to the coaching job.
This summer, he will be the head coach of Sliema in the Maltese Summer League
Today, Sliema announced that Dejan Savic had been appointed as the clubβs head coach with immediate effect and welcomed him, underlining that he guided the Serbian national team to a golden era.
Dejan Savic, who is a record-holder in the number of games played for the national teams of Yugoslavia, Serbia and Montenegro and Serbia (444 games), was Serbiaβs head coach between 2013 and 2022.
During those ten years, Serbia won two Olympic golds (2016 and 2021), one gold and one bronze at the World Championships, three consecutive titles of the European champion (2014, 2016, 2018), FINA World Cup in 2014, six gold medals in the World League, etc. Between 2014 and 2016 Serbia won gold in each of the major competitions it played.

Many water polo stars will play in the Maltese Summer League this year. Sliema’s reinforcements for this year are Olympic champion Andrija Prlainovic and Russian Dmitri Kholod.
Sliema will be the second club that Savic will guide in his coaching career. . He began his career as a coach at Crvena Zvezda in 2011. He retired as Crvena Zvezda’s player and immediately after was appointed as the head coach. Savic has coached Crvena Zvezda on several occasions. His most successful at Crvena Zvezda was 2012/13, when the “Red Whites”, with Savic on the bench, won everything they could – the “double crown” on the domestic stage, LEN Champions League and the LEN Super Cup.
