Denes Varga, the 2019 Total Player, suffered a severe knee injury during training with the national team. He had surgery. Varga, Hungary’s, and Ferencvaros’s captain will probably recover in three-four months.
In today’s official announcement of the Hungarian Water Polo Federation (MVLSZ), Attila Vári, the Federation’s president said:
“The Hungarian men’s water polo team took part in a five-week reunion at the pool of the sports center “Csaszar-Komjadi Bela Sportuszoda”. Ferencvaros players joined last two weeks. We regret to inform you that one of the training days, Denes Varga suffered a serious knee injury”.
Varga had knee surgery after the injury, but according to the latest information, everything went well.
“The injury is not expected to jeopardize its successful 2021 Olympic performance. On behalf of the Federation, I wish Dumi a speedy recovery!””, Vari said
Norbert Madaras, Ferencvaros’s president, commented:
“We are sorry for what happened… Dénes Varga has had a successful operation and is expected to be able to do full training in 3-4 months. Certainly, we cannot yet count on our team captain in the Hungarian Cup this summer. He assured of our support. Ferencvaros is doing its best to keep our high-class player healthy and available to the team as soon as possible.”
The Federation, Ferencvaros and Dénes Varga will continue to focus on the full and complete recovery of the player, so he does not wish to comment on the subject, the MVLSZ underlined at the end of the announcement.
