Vasas welcomed Ferencvaros in the derby of the 23rd round of the Hungarian League. However, the encounter between the former European champions produced no thrills.
The derby turned into a one-sided contest and a one-man show quickly after the start. In the middle of the second quarter, Ferencvaros had a 7:3 lead. Denes Varga scored five of Ferencvaros’ first seven goals. At the end, the difference was six goals. Ferencvaros recorded a 15:9 victory.
OSC Budapest trashed Eger 17:7, while 4th-placed Szolnok beat Szeged 7:3 and came very close to Vasas. Three points separate these two rivals, but Vasas has played one match more than Szolnok.

Ferencvaros killed all the excitement in the derby quickly. The visitors stunned Vasas in the first four minutes. Denes Varga scored an action goal in the visitors’ first possession. Adam Nagy added another shortly after. Varga made it 3:0, while Nagy concluded the series by converting a 6 on 5 for 4:0 in the fourth minute. Akos Konarik put Vasas on the scoreboard in 6th minute. But, Ferencvaros replied in the next attack. Varga added his third goal for 5:1.
The hosts reduced the gap to three at the finish of the quarter, but a one-man show continued after the first break. Vasas missed a man-up in its first possession, and Ferencvaros didn’t miss its next chance. Denes Varga found the net for the fourth time and his team regained a four-goal lead (6:2).
Nagaev scored the third goal for Vasas, but then Denes Varga entered the stage again and netted his fifth. Three minutes before the end of the first half, Adam Nagy made it 8:3. After that, Varga and Nagy “allowed” their teammates to get on the scoresheet. Argyropoulos closed the first half. Ferencvaros entered the second half leading 9:3 and kept a 6-goal distance in the remaining 16 minutes. The teams exchanged goals in the second half, the difference was five or six goals. Vasas wasn’t close to a comeback.
After a slow start, OSC knocked down Eger with a 7:1 second period.
Szolnok’s attack didn’t shine in the match against Szeged. However, the defense was up to the task. Szeged scored its first goal only 11 seconds before the end of the first half. Until then, Szolnok netted three. There were no goals in the third quarter for a long – until the 18th minute, when Szeged’s Porge scored for 2:3. However, there was no comeback. Szolnok scored three straight goals, went to a safe 6:2 lead.
Honved’s defense was superb in Szentes. The Budapest-based side scored three straight goals in first period. Bozo gave the hosts some hope with an early goal in the second period. Honved responded immediately. Two goals separated the rivals until the middle break. Honved scored two quick goals at the beginning of the second half, went to 6:1 and killed all Szentes’ hopes.
