The derbies of the 14th round of the Spanish League were encounters between Barceloneta and Barcelona and between Tenerife and Terrassa.
The games had different storylines. Barceloneta beat Barcelona convincingly (16:9). The duel between Tenerife and Terrassa, the semifinalists of the LEN Challenger Cup, was ended only after a penalty shootout. Tenerife earned a 17:16 win.

Rubi – Caballa postponed
Felipe Perrone didn’t play for Barceloneta in the game against Barcelona, but the reigning champion recorded a big win. The hosts dictated the pace from the beginning. In the middle of the second period, Barceloneta earned a 3-goal lead for the first time (5:2). Barcelona reduced the gap at the finish of the first half (5:7). But the hosts dominated in the second half. They netted three goals in the first three minutes of the third period for 10:5 and held back all Barcelona’s comeback attempts.
Terrassa started very well in the derby in the Canary Islands. The visitors had a 4:1 and 5:2 lead in the second quarter. However, Tenerife managed to come back. It leveled at 5:5. Adria Delgado put Terrassa ahead – 6:5, but Espanol responded for 6:6. At the beginning of the fourth period, the visitors had an 8:6 advantage. But, Tenerife produced a 3:0 run to turn around a 2-goal deficit to the 9:8 lead (25th minute). The teams traded the goals in the remaining seven minutes. Tenerife took a slim lead, but Terrassa leveled at 9:9 and 10:10. Tenerife had a chance to secure a win in the regular time. It had a man-up in the last possession but failed to score.
The winner was decided after eight rounds of shots. Tenerife celebrated a 17:16 victory. Interestingly, second-pick goalkeeper Ivan Sanchez scored one of Terrassa’s six goals in the shootout.
Sabadell ran over Catalunya.
Pol Prat was a hero of Mediterrani’s victory over Real Canoe. His team earned a 15:13 win in Madrid with eight goals from Prat. The first quarter belonged to Real (4:3), but the hosts didn’t go in front in the remaining three quarters. Still, Mediterrani couldn’t build a big lead for long. The visitors earned a three-goal lead late into the third quarter (11:8). Real didn’t surrender and cut the deficit twice in the fourth quarter (10:11, 11:12, 12:13). But, after that, Prat scored his 7th and 8th goals, and Jan Rodriguez added one. The visitors regained a 3-goal lead (15:12) and it was clear that they would celebrate a win.
Sant Andreu beat Mataro narrowly, even though it started excellently and earned a 3:0 lead in the first quarter. Mataro struck back in the second quarter and leveled at 3:3 and 4:4. The hosts went ahead in the third quarter (5:4). However, Sant Andreu answered with two goals to enter the final quarter with a 6:5 lead. The home side leveled the score twice (7:7 and 8:8). But Sant Andreu had the last laugh. Chaz Poot set the final score in the 29th minute. Sant Andreu took a 9:8 lead with 3:11 minutes left on the clock and saved a slim advantage until the end.
