Five teams took part in the tournament. Orizzonte and Plebiscito Padova, the finalists of the 2019/20 Italian Cup, qualified directly to the semifinals.
Only one quarterfinal match was played. SIS Roma defeated Trieste 20:11. Florentia had to withdraw due to the positive coronavirus cases at the club. Therefore, their opponent CSS Verona advanced to the semis without jumping into the water.
In the semifinals, SIS Roma edged out the winner in the previous season Plebiscito – 9:8, while Orizzonte ran over CSS Verona – 18:5.
Orizzonte’s defense worked perfectly in the opening minutes of the final . After the first half, Orizzonte led 3:0. SIS Roma reduced the gap before the final quarter (3:4). But, Orizzonte earned a 2-goal lead in the fourth period (5:3 and 6:4) and didn’t let Roma equalize. The best scorer of the final was Orizzonte’s Arianna Garibotti with three goals.
Plebiscito won the bronze medal. The Padua-based team demolished CSS Verona in the 3rd-place match (14:3).
Orizzonte became the first team that won four Italian Cups for ladies. Orizzonte won the inaugural edition of the competition, held in 2012.
