One of the most exciting matches of Day 19 of the Hungarian League was a clash between Eger and Miskolc, which ended with no winner – 10:10. This was the second consecutive draw in the matches between these two rivals after they shared the points in the match of Day 4 played in Miskolc (9:9).
Vasas continues to prove that it can play excellently in defense. Vasas conceded only four goals in a 9:4 victory over UVSE. Titleholder Ferencvaros defeated Kaposvar 13:9. Honved was the only team that achieved an away win today (beat Tatabanya 13:7).
The round was completed on Thursday with a derby game OSC – BVSC. OSC recorded a narrow 10:9 win and kept 2nd place in the table.

Eger and Miskolc shared the points in the match which offered a few twists and turns. Miskolc dictated the pace throughout the first half and had a 5:4 lead at halftime. Early in the third period, Miskolc doubled the advantage (7:5). But, the hosts were able to come back. By the end of the quarter, Eger scored four goals in a row and earned a 9:7 lead before the final eight minutes. The home side maintained a 2-goal advantage for a while (10:8). The visitors scored two unanswered goals in the last 04:15 minutes and secured a point.
Since late January, Ferencvaros has been playing without several of the main players. But, the title-holder hasn’t suffered a loss in the last three rounds. Today, Ferencvaros hosted Kaposvar. The teams were in a neck-and-neck race until 5:5. Twenty seconds before the middle break, Vendel Vigvari gave Ferencvaros a 6:5 lead. Early in the third quarter, the hosts stretched the margin to three (8:5) and controlled the match until the end.
One of the derby matches in this round was an encounter between Vasas and UVSE. Still, Vasas was a favorite and proved that. Vasas played without Drasko Brguljan (who is with the national team of Montenegro), but convincingly defeated UVSE after a relatively balanced first half. UVSE was in front after the first quarter (2:1). However, Vasas responded with three consecutive goals for 4:2. Just 27 seconds before the end of the second quarter, UVSE cut the deficit to 3:4, but Vasas’ Simon Henrik beat the buzzer and found the net for 5:3 in the last second of the first half. After the middle break, the home team produced a 4:0 rush and jumped to a 9:3 lead. UVSE’s only goal in the second half came too late – in the 30th minute for 4:9.
Honved convincingly beat Tatabanya. The visitors’ defense worked very well in the first half. Honved opened the third period with an extra-player goal to build an 8:1 advantage. Tatabanya couldn’t come back after that.
OSC produces comeback for new win
On Thursday, OSC defeated BVSC thanks to a comeback made in the middle of the match. The score was 1:1 a minute and 22 seconds before the end of the first quarter when OSC’s Balazs Harai was excluded for brutality. His team played with a player less in the following four minutes. In that interval, BVSC managed to build a 2-goal lead (3:1, 4:2, 5:3). But, OSC, led by Krisztian Manhercz, equalized by the end of the second quarter (6:6). OSC took a lead in the second half, but the teams fought a hard battle. In the middle of the fourth period, OSC built a 2-goal lead (9:7). BVSC cut the deficit in the 30th minute (8:9), but OSC replied immediately for 10:8. Less than two minutes from the end, BVSC’s Marton Nagy scored his 4th goal for 9:10. In the remaining time, OSC kept the minimal advantage and all three points

National team prepares with Serbia
The Hungarian League will be resumed on February 27. In the meantime, the national team will have the preparations in Szeged (February 14 – 20). The Serbian national team will join the Hungarians on February 17. On the last day of the joint preparations (February 20), the European and the Olympic champion will face off in a friendly match. That game will be an inauguration of a new pool in Szeged, which has been built recently.
