A new European champion for ladies will be crowned on Saturday.
The Final Four of the LEN Euro League will be held in Budapest on Friday and Saturday.
For the first time, two Hungarian clubs qualified for the F4. Besides these two, one Greek and one Russian side will battle for the trophy.
Tomorrow, Olympiacos (Greece) and UVSE Budapest (Hungary) will face off in the first semifinal. After that, Dunaujvaros (Hungary) and Dynamo Uralochka (Russia) will play in the second match.
The encounter between Olympiacos and UVSE is the highlight of day 1.
Olympiacos is the only one in this company that has already won the Euro League. Besides, it was the runner-up twice. The Greeks reached the final in the previous completed season – 2018/19 and lost to Sabadell (11:13).
UVSE arrives at the F4 encouraged by a success achieved last week. The Budapest-based side won its 6th title of the Hungarian champion in a row. UVSE met Dunaujvaros in the final of the playoffs and clinched the title with two wins and one loss in the series best-of-three. UVSE was very convincing in the last match of the final, played on Saturday in Budapest – 7:2. UVSE’s biggest success in the LEN Euro League was 2nd place in 2016. That year, the Hungarians beat Olympiacos in the semifinals.
Two teams that return to the F4 after more than ten years will play in the second semifinal. Dunaujvaros will play at the final tournament for the first time since 2006 when it finished 3rd. It has played in the final once – in 2003 and lost to Glyfada. Dynamo hasn’t played at F4 since 2007. The Russians have reached the final match twice (in 1992 and 2003).
All clubs, except Dynamo, have already won the European trophies. Besides one LEN Euro League, Olympiacos has one LEN Trophy in its treasury (won in 2014). UVSE clinched the LEN Trophy in 2017. That was followed by Dunaujvaros’ triumph a year later.
