Three qualification tournaments for the European Junior Men’s Championship (players under the age of 17) will be held from Thursday to Sunday. The games will be played in the Croatian island Korcula (Group A), in Maribor, Slovenia (Group C) and in the capital of the Czech Republic, Prague (Group D).
Group B, played in Tbilisi, was completed last week. Host Georgia won first place and qualified for the European Championships (Malta, September 12 – 19). Besides the Georgians, Belarus secured a ticket for Malta.
A total of 16 teams will take part in the European Championship.
Host Malta is directly qualified, as well as the best seven teams at the 2019 Championship held in Tbilisi: Italy (title-holder), Spain (silver), Hungary (bronze), Greece (4th place), Montenegro (5th place), Serbia (6th place), and Germany (7th place).
Thirteen teams are hunting the remaining six berths. The top two teams from each of the three groups will advance to the Championship.
Croatia, Bulgaria, France, and Ukraina have been drawn into Group A (Korcula). Slovenia will host Austria, Great Britain, Romania, and Russia in Maribor. Czech Republic, Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland, and Turkey will battle in Prague.
The tournaments in Maribor and Prague will begin this afternoon. The first round of the tournament in Korcula is scheduled for Friday.
