Goalkeepers Branislav Mitrovic (Vasas) and Attila Decker (Honved) played the leading roles in an encounter between two former European champions. They commanded their defenses excellently, so there were not many goals. Honved took an early 1:0 and 2:1 lead. Then, Vasas scored three unanswered goals for 4:2 and dictated the pace until the end. Early in the third period, Vasas rebuilt a 2-goal lead (5:3). Honved’s Kevi netted two next goals in the match and equalized (5:5). However, Vasas answered with two straight goals – 7:5. Two and a half minutes before the end, the visitors had an 8:6 advantage. Honved’s seventh goal came too late, just 10 seconds before the final buzzer.
There was no excitement in the other six games. The round was opened on Friday, when Szolnok beat Kaposvar, while Ferencvaros defeated Eger.
Today, OSC showed no mercy to Miskolc. BVSC demolished UVSE. PVSK was the only home team that recorded the win. The team from Pecs hosted bottom-placed Debrecen. At halftime, it stood 5:5, but PSVK dominated the second half and recorded a 14:9 victory.
