The 118th edition of the Hungarian League started this evening.
As usual, the teams that won spots in the higher half of the table in the previous season played against the teams from the lower part in the opening round.
Therefore, there were no exciting games. Reigning champion Ferencvaros played with a rejuvenated team against KSI. Denes Varga, Dusan Mandic, Edoardo Di Somma, Szilard Jansik, and Soma Vogel weren’t on the team. Still, Ferencvaros easily defeated KSI – 17:11. The champions didn’t care much about defense in the second half. They conceded eight goals after the middle break.
The five clubs that will represent Hungary in the LEN Euro Cup qualifications – Vasas, Honved, OSC, Szolnok and BVSC earned convincing away wins.
Honved needed more time than its rivals to break its opponent’s resistance. Honved visited Kaposvar. At halftime, the score was 7:7. Honved dominated the second half and recorded a 16:10 win with five goals from Bendeguz Ekler.
The narrowest margin in the first round was two goals. Miskolc, which finished 8th in the 2022/23 season, beat 7th-placed Eger 10:8.
