Ferencvaros clinched its 25th Hungarian Cup and continued to rule this competition. This trophy is Ferencvarosβs eighth consecutive Hungarian Cup since 2018.
The European champions were the favorites, but they had to work hard to defeat Honved in the final of the Final Four tournament in Budapest. Ferencvaros recorded a 17:15 victory in a big battle. Two series of three consecutive goals in each were crucial for the outcome.
In the semifinals of the F4, Ferencvaros beat BVSC 19:11 in a replay of the 2024/25 final. βFradiβ built a 7:3 lead in the first eight minutes, which put the European champions on the right track. Stylianos Argyropoulos was unstoppable with six goals.
Honved advanced to the final after defeating Szolnok in a penalty shootout, 18:17. Szolnok had a solid 11:7 lead in the third period, but Honved came back into the match. Lazar Vickovic, a newcomer to Honved from Radnicki Kragujevac, scored the last goal in the regular time to equalize at 13:13. Honved had stronger nerves in a shootout. Vickovic was Honvedβs top scorer with five goals (including one in the shootout), while Gergo Kovacs netted six for Szolnok.
Honved stunned Ferencvaros with a 5:3 lead after the first eight minutes of the final. Ferencvaros players regrouped themselves and got off to a flying start in the second period. They scored three unanswered goals in the first 68 seconds of this quarter (Mandic scored two and Manhercz added one) and went ahead for the first time β 6:5. The teams traded goals in the following minutes. Honved leveled at 6:6, 7:7, and 8:8. Less than two minutes before the middle break, Edoardo Di Somma gave Ferencvaros a two-goal lead (10:8), but Honvedβs Nikola Moskov closed the first half, scoring for 9:10.
Ferencvaros regained a two-goal advantage at the start of the second half, with Akos Nagy scoring to make it 11:9. Following this goal, Honved lost its head coach, Marton Szivos, who was sent off because of protesting. Shortly after, Argyropoulos extended the lead to 12:9. Honved then narrowed the gap to 11:12. Ferencvaros went on to a quick 3:0 run in just a minute and a half, jumping to 15:11. Just as at the start of the second period, Mandic found the net twice, and Manhercz once in this three-goal series.
Honved halved its deficit early in the fourth quarter (13:15). Dusan Mandic replied immediately, and Szilard Jansik stretched the difference to four, 17:13, with 04:23 minutes left on the clock. It was Ferencvarosβ last goal in the game. Honved tightened its defense; goalkeeper Kristof Csoma, who posted 12 saves in the final, did his job well. However, Ferencvaros controlled the match. Balint Kiss reduced the gap to two (13:15), when it was too late for a comeback, just 35 seconds before the final buzzer.
Dusan Mandic led Ferencvaros with six goals, while Nikola Moskov had the same output in Honved.
