Ferencvaros concluded the regular season of the Hungarian League with a perfect record, defeating Vasas 11:9 in the last, 26th round of the league.
The derby had no bearing on the standings, as Ferencvaros had already cemented 1st place long ago, while Vasas secured 2nd place earlier this week by defeating Kaposvar 17:11 in a postponed match. Nevertheless, both teams were eager to end the league with a win.
In the middle of the second quarter, the visiting team, Ferencvaros, held a slim 5:4 lead. By halftime, the visitors scored three unanswered goalsβone from a penalty shot and two in man-up situations. Early in the third period, the reigning champions extended their lead to five goals when Argyropoulos converted another man-up to make it 9:4. However, Vasas managed to hold Ferencvaros scoreless for nearly 12 minutes while scoring three goals to narrow the gap to 7:9. Ferencvarosβ center, Toni Nemet, responded, bringing the score to 10:7. The contest remained intense, and in the final minute, Vasas came close, reducing the deficit to 9:10. Yet, Ferencvaros earned a man-up opportunity in the last possession. Dusan Mandic converted this chance with 11 seconds left, sealing the final score at 11:9.
Mandic, Adam Nagy, Nemet, Argyropoulos, and Vigvari each contributed to the win with two goals, while Akos Nagy added one. The scorers for Vasas were: Batori 2, Dedovic 2, Gabor, Djurdjic, Mijic, Dala, and Batizi.
Ferencvaros will play against 4th-placed BVSC in the semifinals, while Vasas will meet Szolnok.
Szolnok earned an away win over Szentes β 15:11, with four goals from Donat Simon.
BVSC confirmed 4th place with a 20:5 victory over PVSK Pecs. PVSK kept up with the favorite in the first quarter. After the first eight minutes, the score was 3:3. In the following 24 minutes, BVSC blew PVSK away with five goals from Zsombor Ekler.
After BVSC beat PVSK on Friday, OSC Budapest lost its last slim chance of reaching the playoffs. Still, OSC finished the regular season in style, beating DVSE in Debrecen 14:5. The Budapest-based team made the crucial difference in the first 16 minutes. At halftime, the visitors led 8:0. They added one more goal early in the third period for 9:0 before DVSE found the net for the first time. The top scorer was Baksa Benedek, who scored four goals.
BVSC and OSC finished the regular season with 56 points each, but BVSC finished in 4th place and qualified for the semifinals due to a better head-to-head score. OSC will compete in the 5th-place playoffs, along with Honved, Szeged, and Kaposvar.
