The replay of the 2025/26 Hungarian Cup final, Ferencvaros – Honved, was the Hungarian League’s 8th-round derby match. However, there was no excitement. Ferencvaros recorded a convincing 16:9 victory.
To remind you, Honved started very well in the Cup final against Ferencvaros two months ago, but suffered a 15:17 loss.
In the league match, “Fradi” was always in front. The favorite earned a 3:0 lead in the first four minutes. At halftime, Ferencvaros led 9:2. At the beginning of the third quarter, it widened the gap to eight goals (10:2). Honved didn’t give in and avoided a catastrophic defeat.
Good news for Ferencvaros’ fans is that Dusan Mandic played his first game after recovering from an injury suffered in the European Super Cup against Pro Recco. Mandic scored one goal – he set the final score 16:9, 13 seconds from the end. Stylianos Argyropoulos and Szilard Jansik each contributed three goals to Ferencvaros’ win, but the top scorer was Honved’s Bendeguz Ekler, who found the net seven times.
The other encounter between the teams that have won the Champions League was more exciting. Szolnok defeated Vasas in Budapest, ending the hosts’ winning streak. Szolnok led 5:2 after the first quarter and 8:5 at halftime. Vasas managed to come back and entered the final quarter with an 11:10 advantage. Szolnok regained the lead in the fourth period, but everything was open until the very end. A minute before the end, Vasas trailed 11:12. The hosts missed their chance to equalize. Szolnok scored two goals in the final 12 seconds for a 14:11 victory. Maxim Cseh scored three goal for Szolnok, while the best scorer of the game was Vasas’ Bence Batori with four goals.
BVSC easily beat KSI 20:8, with four goals from Matjas Meszaros.
Szeged earned an important away victory over Eger. Early in the second half, Szeged built a four-goal lead (7:3). From that point on, the difference was never smaller than two goals. Golya scored four goals in Szeged’s 15:13 victory.
Szentes achieved its first win in the season, beating Miskolc 14:13.
Vasas and Szolnok will meet on Sunday evening.
