The Hungarian clubs entered the second half of the regular season. The 16th round was played today. The match of the day was a big derby – Vasas hosted Ferencvaros. European champion Ferencvaros recorded an 8:5 win. This was Ferencvaros’ first victory in the domestic league, after two consecutive defeats in the derby matches in December (to Szolnok 14:15, and to OSC 12:16)

In the first half of the regular season, Ferencvaros ran over Vasas (18:8), but Vasas played with a rejuvenated team in that match. Today’s encounter was a real derby. Ferencvaros recorded a quite convincing victory. The titleholder’s defense in the final 12 minutes made the difference. The teams were in a neck-and-neck race until the middle of the third period.
After the first quarter, Ferencvaros led 2:1. Vasas opened the second period with three goals and earned a 4:2 advantage in the 5th minute of this period. Denes Varga scored for 3:4 in the finish of the first half, while Szilard Jansik leveled the score – 4:4 early in the third period. Bence Batori replied immediately after Jansik’s goal and gave Vasas a new lead – 5:4. That happened in the 3rd minute of the third quarter. In the remaining quarter and a half, Ferencvaros played perfectly in defense, Vasas couldn’t find the net. The sides were tied before the final period (5:5). Ferencvaros, led by Denes Varga, scored three goals in the final eight minutes for a nice 8:5 victory.
A very exciting game was played in Miskolc, where Miskolc hosted Honved.The hosts led for most of the time, but the score was 5:5 after the third period. In the 30th minute, Richard Berki put Miskolc in front once more – 6:5, but Roland Simon leveled the score in the next possession (6:6). Robert Fejos scored a late winner with 46 seconds to go, and Honved took all three points.
Szolnok and OSC recorded easily beat their respective rivals –Kaposvar and Szeged.
UVSE also earned an away win. The young side from Budapest defeated Debceren 8:4.
Only two home teams collected points in the 16th round. Szentes defeated Tatabanya, while BVSC overcame PVSK.
