Ferencvaros, the European and Hungarian champion, issued a statement today to inform about five coronavirus cases at the club.
Ferencvaros’ announcement:
“The whole world is fighting the coronavirus epidemic, a pandemic with unprecedented difficulties. The FTC makes every effort to keep players healthy, and we test responsibly in addition to safety precautions.
Unfortunately, five players from the FTC-Telekom men’s water polo team also gave a positive sample in the last test. We cannot count on our key champions and national team athletes in the next league matches or during a special period of preparation. They are all under house quarantine with minor symptoms.
The remaining period until the Champions League battles in early March was to be used by the professional staff to prepare for the second half of the season with hard grounding training and tactics. To achieve our goals, we need to replicate the perfect performance of recent years in the pool. At the same time, the current circumstances have put the members of the team in a situation whose overcoming no longer depends on their endurance as a sportsman, their tactical preparedness, or their lifestyle, which is subordinate to sports.
The latest number of illnesses is already covering our preparations to such an extent that we wanted to inform our supporters and the sports-loving public who stand by us all along.
We hope for our athletes’ healthy return as soon as possible and that our team, which has won 10 trophies in the last 2 years, will also represent Ferencváros and Hungary on the international stage in a worthy way this year.”
