The womenβs Olympic qualification tournament for the Olympic Games wonβt be played in Trieste, as it was planned.
The International Federation of Aquatic Sports (FINA) canceled the tournament, scheduled for March (8th β 15th), reported the Italian website wpdworld.
The competition was canceled because of the consequences of the emergency in Italy, caused by the coronavirus spread.
The national teams that should arrive in Trieste would risk an ending up in quarantine after they returned home since the coronavirus is rapidly spreading the north regions of Italy. To date, Italy has confirmed 322 cases of coronavirus. Eleven patients died.
The Italian federation of aquatic sport has already postponed all sporting events, which were planned for this week.
FINA still hasnβt issued an official statement, but the International Federation is looking to find a new solution β a new date and a new host.
Ten teams will participate in the womenβs Olympic qualifications. The top two will advance to the Olympic Games.
Group A:Β Italy, Netherlands, France, Uzbekistan, Slovakia
Group B:Β Hungary, Greece, New Zealand, Israel, Kazakhstan.
