It is exciting in the top of the Dutch league. AZC won the top match against ZV De Zaan on Saturday. It meant the first loss for ZV De Zaan. The top-4 is now tied in points. At the bottom of the ranking, SVH won against Waterpolo Den Haag. It was the first win for the team from Rotterdam.
AZC was long behind against ZV De Zaan, but in the last period the team from Alphen aan den Rijn turned that around. Tim Reuten (2) and Milos Filipovic made it 8-10. De Zaan scored once more, but could not prevent a victory for AZC. AZC and ZV De Zaan are now equal in points with Het Ravijn and ZPC Amersfoort. Het Ravijn beat national champions GZC Donk (12-8) on Saturday and ZPC Amersfoort easily defeated PSV (9-19).
SVH won the first points of the season. In The Hague, the team from Rotterdam won 3-6 against Waterpolo Den Haag after a scoreless first period. The home team only scored for the first time at the end of the third period. By then SVH had already netted five times. Polar Bears shared the points with De Ham: 12-12. The team from Ede had to work hard for that. De Ham ran out to 7-9 in the third period. Marnick Snel, Sam Kunz and Tarik Scherrenburg then put the home team back in the lead, but because Tom Geestman and Niek van Gent scored on behalf of De Ham, the match remained undecided.
ZPB is still looking for the first victory. In Utrecht, the team lost 11-5 to UZSC. ZVL-1886 easily won against BZC (8-18).
Women
In the women’s league, the numbers 1 and 2 of the ranking also played against each other. ZV De Zaan won that match for the lead of UZSC 15-13. De Zaan took a large lead in the first half. Wouter Veer’s team ran out to 12-4 in the second period. UZSC came back, but not close enough. In an exciting game in Leiden, ZVL-1886 beat Het Ravijn (12-11). ZVL-1886 was on the right side of the score most of the time. At the end of the third period, the gap was three goals, but Het Ravijn came dangerously close. With a 7-12 victory over PSV, GZC Donk moves into fourth place in the ranking. In Eindhoven, Ingrid Veenhuis’s team took the decisive distance in the third period. Then the Gouda ladies ran from 3-5 to 5-10.
