In the Dutch league, Het Ravijn could have taken the lead. But they failed because they lost against ZV De Zaan. AZC didn’t play and remains the leader. At the bottom of the ranking, ZPB recorded its first victory.
ZV De Zaan won 10-11 against Het Ravijn and is now second in the ranking. The teams were barely apart. De Zaan was just a little better organized and handled the chances a little better. In the end it was Mick van den Bree who scored the winning goal four minutes before the final whistle. In Utrecht it was just as exciting. UZSC and Polar Bears shared the points (8-8). The result will taste sweeter for Utrecht than for Polar Bears, because in the very last second Flemming Katrop put the equalizer on the board. ZPC Amersfoort benefited from the draw in Utrecht. After a perfunctory 17-10 on SVH, Jeroen Cavaljé’s team is now tied in points with ZV De Zaan in the top-3.Â
Just like in Amersfoort, in Barendrecht it became 17-10 by ZPB against Waterpolo Den Haag. It meant the first victory of the season for the home team. After the first period it was already 4-0. The Hague fought back to 6-6 in the second period, but was unable to hold on. ZPB ran out to 13-7 and knew that the loot was in at the start of the last period. Waterpolo Den Haag is now the only team without points.
PSV was close to a surprise against ZVL-1886. In Leiden, the home team seemed to have the game under control for a long time. The gap with the visitors from Eindhoven was always a goal or three. But PSV came very close in the last period. Stijn Simons (2x) and Levy Kort brought PSV back from 10-7 to 11-10. In the remaining minute, however, Jelto Spijker kept his goal clean.
Women
For the women of Het Ravijn it was soon a mission impossible against ZV De Zaan. In the second period, the visitors ran out to 10-3. Het Ravijn recovered in the third period, but that came too late to avert defeat. In the end it was 8-15. The best player on the Zaan side was Takyiwa Sam. She scored seven times. With this victory, ZV De Zaan is now in the lead together with UZSC.
Polar Bears continued the upward trend with a 5-9 victory over GZC Donk. The difference was made in the beginning when the team from Ede came to 0-4 after goals from Nina van de Geijn, Fleurien Bosveld, Feline Voordouw and Lola Moolhuijzen. With that margin Polar Bears was no longer in danger. Every time when GZC Donk came a little closer, Polar Bears answered with a goal. Polar Bears is now third with one game less played and the same number of loss points as UZSC and ZV De Zaan.Â
