Serbiaβs male team that will play at the European Championships in Croatia is slightly different from the one that won 4th place at the World Championships in Fukuoka.
The Serbs arrive in Zagreb with Dusan Mandic, who missed last summerβs actions due to his request.
However, it isnβt a new piece of information.
But, there has been uncertainty about a few injured players in the last few weeks.
The good news for Serbiaβs fans is that the head coach Uros Stevanovic can count on almost all players who missed the EON Cup in Budapest because of injuries β Nikola Jaksic, Branislav Mitrovic, Sava Randjelovic and Djordje Lazic. Only Djordje Vucinic hasnβt recovered.
Interestingly, Serbia will have two pairs of brothers on the roster. Nikola Jaksicβs brother Petar will debut for Serbia at a major competition. Strahinja and Viktor Rasovic are on the team together again. Strahinja was the best scorer at the Fukuoka World Championships. Viktor wasnβt able to help the team in Fukuoka and the World Cup Final due to an injury.
Compared to the Fukuoka roster, there are six new names β two debutants (Partizan’s captain Petar Jaksic and Oradea’s goalkeeper Radoslav Filipovic) and four returnees- Dusan Mandic, Viktor Rasovic, Nikola Lukic and Nemanja Vico.
Stevanovic announced the European Championships roster after this evening’s joint training with Croatia. Earlier today, the Serbs and the Croats played a friendly game. It was a “semi-official” game with no scoresheet. Serbia won 13:8 (2:0, 3:0, 6:4, 2:4), but the result wasn’t essential. Both coaches, Stevanovic and Tucak, tested several combinations and tactics throughout the game.
