The penultimate matchday of the Women’s Hungarian OB I was not short of drama, as UVSE handed FTC a huge blow to their title ambitions, leaving Fradi’s hopes of participating in the finals in jeopardy. Dunaujvaros won expectedly at Gyor, meaning they will finish second in the regular season if they can find a result against UVSE next weekend.
Around the pools in the other games, Keruleti fell by only 5 goals to 3 against Eger, Szeged got an unexpected 11-9 win at home to Szentes and BVSC stuffed Tatabanya by 13 goals (4-17).
UVSE 11-8 FTC-Telekom (4-1, 1-1, 2-3, 4-3)

FTC: O. Cseho-Kovacsne Kaso, P. Petik, Z. Mate, K. Valentin, P. Pocze 1, V. Kovesdi, M. Koopman, A. Illes 4, S. Kuna, V. Valyi 1, D. Toth Csabai 2, D. Domsodi, M. Regos, B. Neszmely
UVSE are back on top of the league and have secured their place in the national championship final with a well-earnt win against the faltering Ferencvaros. UVSE started the game the brighter, storming to a 5-1 lead (Keszthelyi-Nagy, Farago, Szegedi, Peresztegi-Nagy and young Kata Hajdu).
However, Fradi showed a lot of spirit to peg the Lilacs and Yellows back within a single goal (6-5), led by two goals from Dora Toth Csabai.
But UVSE, as they have shown time and time again, have the quality and the class to match any opponent. Natasa Rybanska netted three, Kata Hajdu netted again and even the UVSE keeper, Alda Magyari, converted with 5 seconds to go, to secure an important win for Marton Benczur’s side at Alfred Hajos.
The win is significant for UVSE, who now cement their place in the championship finals. For FTC, their fate now hangs in the balance – they need to win next week and hope that UVSE defeat Dunaujvaros on the final day of action. If Dunaujvaros beat UVSE, they will play UVSE in the championship play-off final.
