Goal difference was decisive at the top and the bottom of the Spanish Division de Honor, as the regular league came to a close.
After twenty-two action-packed match weeks, it was Sabadell who finished the regular season at the summit of the league, just edging out Mataro on goal difference. Though both teams accumulated a formidable 43 points apiece, it was Sabadell who earned the top seed for the upcoming playoffs, a privilege not lost on the buoyant side. Both teams secured emphatic victories in their final regular season games, with Sabadell holding down CNAB 15-4, while Mataro put Sant Feliu to the sword in a dominant 22-4 display.
The third-place finisher in phase one, Sant Andreu, also secured their passage to the playoffs, with a crucial 14-11 win against Catalunya, ensuring they finished ahead of Mediterrani, who failed to take the field today.
Elsewhere, relegation proved to be an unfortunate reality for Zaragoza, as they fell to a 19-8 loss against Terrassa. Boadilla also suffered a bitter defeat, losing to Rubi by a narrow 9-11 margin, leaving them level on points with Zaragoza. However, it was the Madrid-based outfit who had the superior goal differential, securing their place in Spain’s top flight and avoiding the drop

Mataro put on a dominant display against Sant Feliu, claiming a convincing 22-4 victory at the Joan Serra swimming pool. Dani Ballart’s Maresme squad showed their superiority early on, leading 13-0 at halftime. The league’s top goal-scorers, Rita Keszthelyi and Simone Van de Kraats, both added six goals each to their impressive season tallies.
Sabadell ended their regular season on a high note with a comfortable 15-4 win over Barceloneta at Can Llong. Maggie Steffens led the charge for David Palma’s team, scoring four goals and helping Sabadell secure their twenty-first win of the season. CNAB managed to score the first goal of the game but quickly succumbed to Sabadell’s relentless offense, giving up six unanswered goals in two spells. Unfortunately, Barceloneta’s women will not make an appearance in the championship play-offs, but they can still take pride in their season of progress under the guidance of Marc Comas.
Sant Andreu secured their place in the championship play-offs with a final-day win over Catalunya, thanks in large part to Maartje Van Rijn’s five-goal performance. Meanwhile, in a battle between two teams in the bottom half of the table, Rubi emerged victorious with a narrow 11-9 win over Boadilla. Carlota Penalver (4) and Amanda Trivino (3) proved to be the difference-makers for Rubi in attack.
Finally, Terrassa relegated Zaragoza with a commanding 19-8 victory in their last game of the season. Kindred Paul and Paula Camus both scored four goals each, while Nina Ten Broek notched three goals and extended her contract with the club this week alongside Camus and Pili Pena. It was a dominant display from Terrassa, who finished a disappointing campaign on a high.
There was no match between Mediterrani and Tenerife today; the two teams met back in April, with Mediterrani coming out on top, 15-11. The playoffs for the championship will feature Mediterrani.
