The penultimate day of the U16 Women’s World Championships saw the hosts Greece progress to the ‘Platinum’ final, where they will face Hungary tomorrow in what promises to be a hotly contested final. Elsewhere, Japan and Italy will battle it out for the ‘Gold’ medal, after beating the Netherlands and Croatia respectively.
A stellar first quarter for the hosts Greece was enough to see them through to the grand final proper. Ariadni Karampetsou netted three times to see her team over the line.
Japan stunned the Netherlands to make the ‘Gold’ medal match (de facto 5th place final). Kaho Shironoshita had an outstanding game, converting five times to give Japan a 10-4 win.
Japan will meet Italy in the Gold final, after they stuffed Croatia 19-5. Notable scorers for the Setterosa included Bianca Rosta (5), Teresa Lombardo (3), Eleonora Bianco (3), Emma Bacelle (3) and Cecilia Oliva (3).
The United States are on course to win the ‘Silver’ round – with victories over Israel and Switzerland.
