Hard battle in Reims; Marseille extends winning streak

Only three games of the French League have been played this week because three clubs (Strasbourg, Tourcoing, Pays d’Aix)took part in the LEN Euro Cup yesterday.

League leader Marseille continued its winning streak by beating Nice.

2020/21 French League

Day 14

Marseille – Nice 12:4 (3:1, 3:1, 3:1, 3:1)

Marseille: Prlainovic 3, Vernoux 2, Djurdjic 2, Marion-Vernoux 2, Kovacevic 1, Vanpeperstraete 1, Olivion 1.

Reims – Nice 6:6 (1:0, 1:4, 3:2, 1:0)

Marseille blew away Nice in its final rehearsal for the second “bubble” tournament of the Champions League. Nice kept up with the favorites for six minutes. Two minutes before the first break, the score was 1:1. Marseille scored two goals by the end of the first period. They added three in the second quarter for 6:1, and dominated until the end.

On Saturday, Nice earned a point in the match against Stade de Reims. Nice led for most of the time. The visitors had a 2-goal lead in the middle of the match (4:2 and 5:3), but the hosts managed to equalize (5:5). Still, late into the third period, Nice regained a slim advantage (6:5).

Defenses dominated the final period. The only goal in the fourth quarter came in the 29th minute when Caraj found the net for 6:6 and the hosts secured a point.

Montpellier found it easy to beat the last-placed Montpellier in the postponed match of Day 4.
