The most important game of Day 17 of the Hungarian League was the only exciting match this weekend. But that match produced a lot of thrills.
An encounter between Eger and Honved was a really exciting contest with 29 goals. Honved, the visiting team, collected three points with a narrow 15:14 victory.

Eger hosted Honved in the match, which was one of the crucial duels in the battle 5th position. Honved earned a narrow win and regained a 5-point advantage ahead of Eger. The Budapest-based side still has a chance to reach 4th place. It was a game with a lot of turns. Early in the second quarter, two goals separated the rivals for the first time. Eger earned a 5:3 lead. At the middle break, the hosts had a slim 7:6 advantage.
Honved dominated the third period. In the 23rd minute, the visitors built a 3-goal lead (11:8). But that wasn’t the end of the big battle. Eger cut the deficit to one in the 26th minute (10:11). Midway through the fourth quarter, the visitors were three steps ahead of Eger again (14:11) and managed to hold back Eger’s last comeback attempts in an exciting finish. The hosts came close with 02:45 minutes left on the clock (13:14). But, Honved entered the final minute with a 15:13 advantage. Eger scored its 14th goal for the final score with 37 seconds to go.
Szolnok defeated Honved 13:9. The former European champion and LEN Euro Cup winner led throughout the match. Szolnok had a 3:0, 6:2, 7:3, 8:4, 10:5 advantage. But, Miskolc fought hard until the end. Early in the fourth period, the visitors narrowed the margin to two goals (8:10). Still, Szolnok didn’t let a big turn happen. The hosts earned a four-goal lead in the 30th minute (12:8) and maintained the difference until the end.
The favorites were merciless in the other matches, although many experienced players and team leaders had a day off , by the coaches’ decisions.
Ferencvaros continued its winning streak with a 20:4 victory over Kaposvar. OSC was too strong for PVSK (19:8). Vasas sank UVSE (19:8). Szeged found it easy to beat last-placed KSI (18:7). BVSC trashed Szentes (19:5).
